Late goal secures three points

The Netherlands opened their EURO 2024 campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Poland in Amsterdam on Thursday. The win mirrors their success in the 1988 tournament, where they also defeated the Poles in their opening game.

Despite controlling much of the match, the Dutch struggled to break down a resolute Polish defense. The stalemate appeared destined to end until a late goal from Memphis Depay in the 87th minute sealed the victory.

The win gives the Netherlands an early advantage in Group C, with their next match coming against Germany on June 15. Poland, meanwhile, will aim to bounce back when they face Belgium on the same day.
